For many years, I have dreamt of running a bookshop, with both new and second-hand books, offering refreshments and a safe community space. Over Christmas that dream came several steps closer to reality.
In November I formed Script Haven Ltd as a safe haven for all words, old and new, stocking books by self-published and mainstream authors, and accepting donations of second-hand books, as an online company. Donated books are then either gifted to families, communities, individuals or re-purposed into beautiful art and crafts. In addition, local creatives are also starting to list their work through me.

The eventual aim will be to raise funds for a physical shop in Worcester, which will also offer:
- a cafe for you to read & peruse in comfort
- spoken word events – some for fun, many to raise awareness & funds for local charities
- book launches
- Literary Festival events
- safe space & breakout rooms for hire, counselling, meditation, community use
Through us, you can also support our UK troops on deployment through a new service called ‘Military Cuppas’. By donating £2.50 you will be providing the gift of a cup of tea (or coffee) to our UK troops on deployment to say thanks and let them know they’re appreciated. Your donation will go directly to the NAAFI, who will pick a random recipient and notify them they have received an MC, which can be used to purchase any food or beverage product that is offered in the NAAFI on base.
This may not seem like a lot, but speaking from the personal experience of my son the thought that someone back home cares means so much.
Over Christmas, we have received in excess of 200 second-hand books, many of which have now been gifted to new homes. Some are starting new lives as beautiful art. A number of local community organisations have reached out clamouring for this safe space to be made available as soon as I can.
We are now running a crowdfunder to raise funds for premises in Worcester. Funds will go towards the lease, furnishings, and salaries – let’s make this safe haven for communities, people, words and the arts a reality for 2023
