whoops! Book Launch

I dropped the ball in announcing this! Sunday 5th March saw the launch of my 5th book, ‘Space & Shadows’, a collection of photography, poetry and even music (via a QR code inside) following my successful exhibition at The Commandery last year.

The launch was a hybrid event, hosted at The Commandery and managed by Black Pear Press, who published this beautiful coffee-table style book.

Contentious Friend’ shows Leena Batchelor’s photo of a wall in the Painted Chamber. This is a rare example of a medieval painting depicting the martyrdom of St Thomas Becket at Canterbury (c.1170). The poem below is an ekphrastic representation of the painting:

Contentious friend
Beware your words, for while laced with innocent intent may harm you yet.

Ill-judged the determination that brought me low,
Ill-judged the act dealing the final blow.
My words deemed poison to royal ears, From ears to thoughts came darkened fears.

Now you kneel to see me, beg succour for your pain, those maledictions of mind.

Your jewels mean nothing to me now.
Your pleas fall upon ears long since deaf.

Acts not prayers will choose betwixt good and ill.

Yet pray you still to recall the act
upon the contentious friend who meant no ill.

Copies are £15 and be purchased through the Black Pear Press website
